What Hongyuan tangerine peel candy is
The yellow bag reads 陳皮糖, or 陈皮糖 on newer print runs: chenpi candy. Chenpi is dried tangerine peel, a traditional seasoning in Chinese cooking, and it tastes nothing like orange soda. One buyer reads the label as four pieces and 50 calories to a serving. Another calls it a wake-up candy and takes one in place of afternoon coffee.
Know before you buy
This is the flavor people argue about. A two-star review describes tart orange and dirt. If your idea of citrus candy is bright and juicy, pick pineapple and leave chenpi to those who grew up with it.

Balanced flavor, enough pieces to share
These candies are wonderful. Not too sweet, not sour, and each piece is small (a serving is 4 pieces with a total of 50 calories). The generous bag proportion surprised me, and this was a three pack, so I've been sharing them with everyone I know. A traditional-tasting treat, unlike so many new fake sweets.
son in law and grandson eat this flavor nonstop
Grandson will eat 3 of these back to back. He chews them like a little alligator and ask for another one. I don't know why they are both so addicted to this candy . Son in law is constantly ordering. So I ordered them 3 large bags for Christmas
Interesting, but wouldn't buy again.
Tastes like tart orange and dirt, or maybe mold.Such a strange flavor.
